Whether you are on a return trip to Paris, a long layover, or just looking for an alternative to the typical Parisian itinerary, let's get you off the beaten path for 48 hours of food, galleries and shopping.
Day One: Le Marais
You cannot come to Paris without a visit to Le Marais. The fashionable district of the 4th arrondissement will leave you captivated by their small medieval lanes filled with restaurants, bars, hotels and shopping.
Start your day with a coffee at White. Whether you are a simple black cup type of person or you enjoy an elevated order, you won't be disappointed with the sleek, modern space and fresh roasted flavors, pastries and juices.
Galleries typically open after lunch, so take some time for some shopping. Serica is worth a stop for men's accessories. Their sophisticated watches take you back to the golden age of watchmaking and makes the perfect purchase for a Paris splurge.
Before hitting the galleries, grab some lunch at Marché couvert des Enfants Rouges. A French market dating back to 1615, it is filled with vendors, flowers and food stalls making it a perfect place to grab a casual bite to eat. We recommend Les Enfants du Marché, a fresh seafood vendor in the market. Choose the special of the day off the chalkboard and let the waiter pick your wine. We promise, you won't be disappointed!
For galleries, head over to the Henri-Cartier Bresson Foundation. They have rotating exhibits of everything from French classics to younger up and coming artists. Though a smaller venue, it's a must see if you are a photography lover. Let the photography theme carry the day and head to Les Filles du Calvaire. It is a well-curated space with a calm ambience to contrast the typical hustle and bustle of Paris museums. Slide a visit into the Musée Picasso and if time allows, Polka Galerie, Les Douches La Galerie and Baudoin Lebon are all worth your time.
Dinner plans? Pompette. Make reservations and enjoy their lighter fare with an amazing natural wine list.
Day Two: The Left Bank
Today head to the Left Bank and start your day at Brasserie Lipp. Across the street from many of the famed, touristy cafés, you will appreciate the more discreet setting while still enjoying the same classic Left Bank French fare.
After brunch, take some time to shop around the 6th arrondissement. Dabauve & Gallais is divine for picking up some chocolates for friends at home and L'Uniform is a must to grab one of their perfect totes or handbags (another Paris splurge!) Lastly, head over to Delpire & Co, a delightful bookstore filled with rare magazines and artbooks with reasonable price points.
With shopping attended to for the day, start your stroll through the small Left Bank galleries with a visit to the bright space of Galerie Esther Woerdehoff devoted exclusively to modern and contemporary photography. Next stop, Galerie Jean-Kenta Gauthier before ending the afternoon with a lingering look at the contemporary art of Bourse de Commerce.
Dinner plans? Localino for a well-curated, simple Italian menu in a cozy setting.
